Shock Star Issue #1
This 26-page electrifying debut comic gives us the origin story of Samatha Zheng, a high school senior struggling to find her place in the world and what her future will be after graduation.
After being invited to a tech expo by her crush for inspiration, she's caught in the blast of a quantum explosion that leaves her and others in the city with extraordinary new abilities. Believing she's finally found her purpose, Sam quickly seizes her chance to become more than an overlooked art nerd, and becomes the super-charged heroine, Shock Star!
As Shock Star defends Queen City from its newly created super-villains, she soon finds that the explosion was more than an accident and that someone has plans for all these new superhumans...
The thrill of the superhero life will quickly fade for Sam as she faces the harsh realities that comes with the title. She'll face villains worse than she could imagine, and have to make hard decisions that will pit her against the people she loves most. All while trying to survive her last year of high school, impress her crush, and convince her cop mom to let her go to art school.
...Good Luck, Sam!
Samantha "Sam" Zheng
A passionate girl with a love for art, cosplay, and pretending to be a Half-Elf bard on the weekends with her friends. After a tech robbery gone wrong, she gains stunning new abilities and uses them to shine brighter than she ever could before!
Sam's story is about finding your place and purpose in the world and how it's easy to lose your way and feel insignificant when you don't know where that is. Like any teen, Sam wants to matter and to leave her mark on the world. When you give a kid like that great power, well... bad decisions are bound to be made.
That's what makes her journey special, it's human. She'll make mistakes and get herself in trouble for selfish reasons but learn and grow from those mistakes, ultimately becoming the hero she's meant to be. Just like all of us.
Follow Shock Star as she struggles to balance her new life with her old one, battle against deadly new villains, and figure out who she really is underneath the cool glasses.
We promise it will put a shock to your system!
